Rock and roll

Matthew is pretty rock and roll. More rock and roll that many might suspect. His most extraordinary moment was singing live with Hawkwind to a sell-out crowd and the now demolished London Astoria. His performance of the band’s classic 70s tune Spirit of the Age was not responsible for the venue’s subsequent destruction. Far from it, Matthew has become close friends with the band and has appeared several times on stage with Hawkwind since and has appeared on two albums, as well as on the remix of Spirit of the Age released in 2006. A veteran of the free festival scene, Matthew hosts Question Time and Mastermind at Hawkwind’s annual Easter Bash and will happily wear a bucket on his head again at this year’s Kozfest should that be required.

Matthew hosted Hawkwind’s ‘Rock 4 Rescue’ animal rights fundraiser on 23rd Feb 2014 at London’s Shepherds Bush Empire.

Matthew is also a long time fan of festival legends Here and Now and counts frontman Keith the Missile Bass as a close friend. He cites their Fantasy Shift album as the one that set him on his rather wonky life journey and hopes to perform with the band at July’s Kozfest for the first time.

Matthew chose Frank Zappa – Life and Works as his specialist subject when he appeared on Celebrity Mastermind. He got 13 out of 14 questions on the great man correct!
